Topsham, Maine, was named after Topsham, England in 1717. Its natural borders include the Androscoggin River to the south, the New Meadows river to the east and Cathance River to the west. The townships of Bowdoin and Bowdoinham border to the north.

The town was incorporated in 1764 and became the 19th town in Maine.
